David A. Breeland, after an illness of about two weeks from pneumonia, died at
his home about two miles north of Tylertown. The following morning he was laid

Breeland, who was in his 70th year, was the father of a large family. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Harriett Breeland, his daughters Minnie Breeland and
Mrs. Jasper Rushing, and his sons Tom, A. Z., Needham
A., Leslie, Cole and Elisha Breeland all of whom are well known residents of this
community. Mr. Breeland was a prominent Mason and one of our best citizens and
will be sorely missed not only by those near and dear to him but by many
friends and associates who held him high in esteem.

MRS. OLIVIA FUTCH AT REST
Mrs. Olivia Jane Futch, wife of
Thos. J. Futch, suffered an appopletic stroke about
noon last Saturday, and although all that medical skill and solicitous
attention of family and friends could do was insistently done, she steadily
sank until claimed by death at 12:50 Sunday morning.
The funeral service, largely
attended by sorrowing relatives and friends, was conducted by Rev. H. A. Gatlin at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and Mrs. Futch's remains were laid to rest in the new city cemetery.
Mrs. Futch was 52 years old. She was
a daughter of S. A. and Sallie (Pierce)* Blackwell, and was born in this immediate
vicinity. She became a member of New Zion Baptist church 32 years ago last
August, and in December of the same year was married to Thos. J. Futch.
Five children was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Futch, three of whom, with their father, survive, as follows: Mrs. Jos Foxworth, Thos. Futch, Jr. (of Bogalusa), and
Miss Freda Futch, the first and last-named residing at Tylertown.
Mrs. Futch was one of those quiet
Christian characters whose thoughtful ministrations cover communities as
unostentatiously as does the gracious dew, and who seem to seek no goal other
than the privilege of serving the Master through alleviating the needs of his
creatures.
Mrs. Futch will be sadly missed by
the many who mourn their loss.
[ * Her mother's maiden name is
given herein as "Pierce" but listed on Sarah "Sally" Blackwell's
death certificate is her father's name: "Jim Morris."

Harriet (Holmes) Breeland was the daughter of Elisha Holmes,
Jr. and his wife, Mary ( Roberts) Holmes of the Varnel Creek area (near Salem). She married David Alexander
"Alec" Breeland. In the early years of their marriage (in 1872) she

and difficult days of Reconstruction -- a horror which our generation has
forgotten. The Lord brings us through many difficult and trying times which we
may be tempted to believe are impossible to endure.]
