Mississippi Oil & Refining Company

(Transcribed by RaNae Vaughn from The Vidette, Vol. XXXIX No. 48, August 2, 1923)

This company is a purely local organization and has been formed for the purpose of drilling for oil on the famous “Cypress Pond” anticline in Tishomingo County, Miss.

Many geologists of nation wide repute have pronounced the property of the Company as being one of the most favorable locations in the State for the discovery of oil.

Active drilling operations are being prosecuted at present and this end of the business is in charge of Oscar Hanson, assisted by Bill Steinhoff.  These two drillers have had over 25 years experience in the drilling and development of oil wells.

Dr. F. T. Carmack—a life long resident of this section of the country—is President of the Company and Captain H. R. Backhous is Secretary-Treasurer.

The area included in the Company’ property comprises a total of over 10,000 acres and covers the Dome of the structure almost in its entirety.

The Company is dependent on the sale of stock for continuancy of its operations and in the event of oil being found in large quantities offers a wonderful opportunity to the investor for a life long income for a small outlay, especially as the Executive of the Company is strong, capable and thoroughly efficient, and will under any and all circumstances look after and protect the interests of the Company and its stockholders.

Any reader interested can have full information and geological reports by applying to the company’s office at Iuka.
