A genealogy of the Blake family of Bibb Co., AL, has been published.
One son, John BLAKE Jr., moved his family to Tippah Co. about 1845. He
is in the 1850 census of Tippah Co. By 1860 his wife Tabitha (HAGGARD)
had moved with their children to Oktibbeha Co. Would like to find their
descendants for inclusion in the family records. Will share research.

Everett 1. I am a descendant of John Hamblin. Anyone with information on

WALLIS/HANDLEY
MARY ELIZABETH WALLACE was b. April 30, 1839, and died April 30, 1874.
On June 24, 1864, she married William Payton HANDLEY in Tippah County,
Mississippi. This is second hand information, of course. In 1975, when
I began researching, William Payton had four children still living and
the youngest had his Bible in which he had listed his marriages and his
offspring. He was married three times and Mary Elizabeth was the first
wife. According to the four children living in 1975, he met and married
his first wife in Ripley, Mississippi. I believe that is in Tippah County.
If a marriage certificate (or death certificate) could be found, it should
be a big help. I do not know the names of her parents, but Payton's second
wife was her niece (MARY SUSAN WALLACE) so we know she had at least one
brother. Any help appreciated.

I am trying to identify the parents, siblings, etc. of Laten Franklin
ELLIOTT and Rebecca Hardin STEELE who were married November 11, 1847 in
Tippah Co. by a William COTTAM (or COTTON) Esq. I know that their first
two children, Lucinda and Anna were born in MS in 1848 and 1850 respectively.
After that, they took up residence in Polk Co., Missouri, where they are
buried. I would Greatly appreciate any help, and will share any information
that I have.

Lovitt M. Hatcher was born between 1800/10 in N.C. He died between
1846/1850 in Tippah Co. His wife was Rebecca ?? born about 1807 and was
still living in 1860. Their children, all born in Tippah Co., were William
T. born ca. 1836, Walter F. L. born ca. 1838, James M. 17 Oct 1839 - 16
Dec 1912 (buried in Clear Creek Cem.), Polly Ann born ca. 1841, Caroline
born ca. 1844, John H. born ca. 1845 and Lovid Drayton Hatcher (my gr-gr-grandfather)
15 Nov 1846 - 17 Dec 1943. Lovid Drayton Hatcher at the age of 14, enlisted
in Co. G, 23 Reg't Miss. Vol. on 19 Sept 1861 at Iuka, Miss. He spent 20
months as a prisioner at Camp Douglas, IL. After the war, he settled in
Obion Co., TN. where he married. The family later moved to Blytheville,
Ark. where Lovid Drayton died and is buried. Would love to make contact
with descendants of his siblings. I have a picture of his brother Jim and
his wife Bettie. Four other adults in picture with names of Jim, Billy,
Ada and Emma written on back.

My ancestors Peter Henry Hawkins was b. in Newberry Co. SC and died
in Tippah Co. Mississippi. His children were: Anna E. Hawkins b. 1861 in
Tippah Co. MS m. B. Cones; (2) William Hawkins b. 1867 (no records); Charlie
Oscar Hawkins b. 1868 in Tippah Co. MS; (3) Charlie Oscar Hawkins b. 1868
in Tippah Co. MS; (4) Walter Henry Hawkins b. 1874 in Tippah Co. MS and
(5) Rett Henry Hawkins (my grandfather).
Mother of these children was Julia Ann Potts.
My family lives in Franklin County, AR. Evidently Peter Hawkins never
came here, but all his children and his widow, Julia Potts Hawkins did.
I would like to know more about this family when they lived in Newberry
and Tippah Counties.
It appears that the first record I can find shows Peter Hawkins b.
1745 in VA and died 1801 in SC near Prosperity and married "Prudence."
They had one child named Jacob b. 1768-1795 d. 1802-1875.

HAWTHORNE
Seeking info on the children and wives of Harvey Hawthorne. Harvey
arrived in (old) Tippah County, MS, from Abbeville County, SC in the 1850s.
He married Amanda Moore in 1860 and had at least one female child. Harvey
apparently was serving in the Army when she died. Family records indicate
that his wife was Emma Moore (I assume that she was a sister of Amanda)
Harvey is buried in the Ebenezer Cem. (Cotton Plant, MS) along with four
other people that I assume were his sons. I cannot find burial records
for either wife. I have Hawthorne linage records that include some 1,000
names and will be very happy to share this info.

I am principally researching the Talberts. Samuel Nixon Talbert b 28
aug 1830, d 20 Nov 1893 moved from SC to Tippah County around the eary
1860's. Served in the CSA. Bought his way ourt of the war and came back
to Tippah Co. He married Sarah (Sallie) Humphrey b 6 Mar 1837 and d 14
Apr 1877. The marriage resulted in six children. After Sarah died, Samuel
married Elvira I McAlister on 28 Feb 1878 who was b 15 sep 1844 and d 15
aug 1916. Samuel , second wife and children later moved to Dallas Co.,
AR. I would appreciate any info one might have on the Talberts and also
the Humphrey's. I have been to Ripley in search of where Sarah was buried,
but have been unsuccessful from the records at the court house or the local
library.
