First Monday Trade Day - 1916

On July 3, 1893, Tippah County established First Monday Trade Day, a tradition that is still carried on today south of Ripley.  First Monday Trade Day started as a place for farmers to sell goods to each other, today it is a huge flea market covering over 50 acres of land.  The Flea Market is held the weekend of the first Monday of every month, hense the name.

The large two story house in the back of the picture now houses the Tippah County Heritage Society.  This museum displays historical remnants of Tippah County, and provides information about how life was during the 19th Century, and early 20th Century.
