JAMES McCANN
Hillsboro, Mississippi - November 6th A.D. 1849
Received of James McCann the sum of two hundred and fifty Dollars in full
payment for one Negro girl, named Mary, aged about two years and six months,
which said negro girl. I hereby bind myself, my heirs, executors and
administrators or assigns to warrant and defend to the said James McCann and to
his heirs executors, administrators or assigns forever.
In testimony whereof I have set my hand and affix my seal the day above written.

JOHN HENDLEY
This Indenture made and entered into this sixth day November in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine by and between James
McCann and Elitha McCann his wife of the first part and John Hendley of the
Second part all of the County of Scott and State of Mississippi. Witnesseth:
that the said party of the first part aforsaid in consideration of the sum of
two hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand paid by the said party of the
second part, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents. The
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day granted, bargained, sold,
conveyed and confirmed unto the said party of the second part and to his
heirs and assigns forever, all the right, title, claim and interest in and to
the following described tracts or parcels of land situated and being in the
County of Scott and State of Mississippi known and designated as the South West
quarted of the south west quarter of section five (5) and the east one half of
southeast quarter of section six (6) all in township seven (7) of range nine (9)
east together with all and singular the rights, priveldges heriditaments and
appurtinances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining. To have and to
hold the same unto him the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns
forever, and the said party of the first part for themselves their heirs
executors and administrators the right and title to the said party of the
second part his heirs and assigns will forever warrant and defend against the
lawful claims or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever
claiming or to claim both or in equity.
In testimony whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto
set their hand and affixed their seal the day and year first above written

County of Scott ( This day personally appeared before me, Alfred
Eastland, the undersigned acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County.
The above named James McCann and Elitha McCann his wife who seperately
acknowledges that they signed sealed and delivered the above and foregoing deed
of conveyance to John Hendley on the day and year and for the uses and purposes
therein specified as their act and deed. And the said Elitha McCann wife of
the said James - being by me examined seperate and apart from her said husband
acknowledged that she signed, sealed and delivered the same freely and
volunitarily without any fear, threats or complusion from her said husband.

to ( DEED of GIFT - book "D" pages 310-311 - Scott County,
Mississippi.
LUCY McCANN)
Know all men by these presents that I, John Hendley of the
County of Scott and State of Mississippi for and in consideration of the natural
love and affection which I bear unto my daughter Lucy McCann, and also for and
in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me paid by my said said (sic)
daughter Lucy McCann at and before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt
whereof I do hereby acknowledge have given, granted, bargained and sold and by
these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto my said daughter Lucy
McCann and to the heirs of her body a certain Negro girl named Tamer, about
twenty two years old. To have and to hold the said Negro girl Tamer hereby given
and granted unto the said Lucy McCann, my daughter and to the heirs of her body
and to her executors and administrators forever, as her and, their own property,
and I do hereby warrant and defend the title of said Negro girl to my said
daughter Lucy McCann and to the heirs of her body against the claim or claims of
all and every person or persons whatsoever. And I further warrant the said Negro
girl to be a slave for life.
In witness whereof I have hereunto sit my hand and seal this 27th
day of January AD 1846.

Personally appeared before me the under signed Clerk of the Circuit
Court in and for the County of Scott and State aforesaid, John Hendley whose
name is subscribed to the within and foregoing instrument of writing and
acknowledged that he signed, sealed and delivered the same on the day and year
and for the use and purposes therein specified as his act and deed.
