Walthall
In the late 1840's Rufus Peyton Walthall came to Booneville as a small
child from Virginia, where he was born. His parents having died when
he was little more than a baby, he was reared by his maternal
grandparents, Peyton Skipworth Randolph and Elizabeth Fields Randolph.
They settled on what is now known as the Goff place just south of the
city limits. He was a nephew of Confederate General and U.S. Senator,
Edward Cary Walthall.
From his marriage to Martha Jane Fulghum there were six children. Mrs.
R.B. Cunningham is the only living descendant living in Booneville, at
present. (1961)
