Methodist Church at Toccopola

Pontotoc County,

Mississippi

Present building erected in Toccopola 1885.I don't believe they have worship services there any more, but building still standing. From "From these Hills": The sanctuary is very large, and there was a time when it was always filled to capacity with worshipers. The flooring is made of very broad plank. At the back of the sanctuary there is a Sunday School room on each side of the entrace, and a front porch stands high off the ground. One can tell by just observing the workmanship the type and quality of materials used, and the manner and style of the building that it is indeed a historical building. It is painted white, and is quite beautiful standing in the midst of a spacious lawn.Square nails and pegs were used by the carpenters. "

Some of the families I remember (and there were many more): Johnstons, Pickens, Martins, Wilsons, Gooches. The Harve McCharen family were members there, I am sure.
