ELLZEY

 

Lewis Ellzey born about 1765 in Virginia and came to Pike County around 1818 settling on the Bogue Chitto River near

Stalling’s Crossing which is now in Walthall County.   Lewis was the son of John and Prudence Lay Ellzey of Virginia. He

married Eve Shaffer in Virginia or Pennsylvania around 1788.   Lewis died in Pike County around 1834 and Eve died

August 8, 1852 in Pike County.  They are believed to be buried either in unmarked graves on family property or in the

Silver Creek Baptist Church cemetery where they were members.  Their children were:

 

Elizabeth Ellzey born September 27, 1789 in SC, married William Sibley, died November 20, 1868 Pike County, MS.

 

William Shaffer Ellzey born May 1, 1791 in VA, married Esther Sibley on July 27, 1815 in Amite County, MS and died

January 18, 1866 in Natchitoches, LA.

 

John Shaffer Ellzey born November 10, 1796 in SC, married #1 Margaret Indiana Caswell Hall and #2 Elizabeth Coney

on July 18, 1823.

 

Thomas Ellzey born July 15, 1800 in SC married Mary O’Neal Seale

 

Nancy Ellzey born December 30, 1802 in SC, married #1 Benjamin Morgan and #2 James Erwin Cunningham. She died

April 17, 1873 in Desoto Parish, LA.

 

James Washington Ellzey born about 1809 in SC, married Mary Laura Quin and lived on Leatherwood Creek. He died

of yellow fever on October 3, 1847, and is buried in Elliott Cemetery.
