In 1863, the Governor of Mississippi asked of it's citizens to enlist in the local defense for a period of six months. Among the units organized were three from Noxubee County: Captain Fant's Company, Captain Foote's Company and Captain McLelland's Company.
Although not positive of when it was organized, another unit, that of the "Noxubee Guards", under Isaac B. Hudson, was also active.
Most of those who served in these units will be found serving in other units both earlier in the War as well as "later." Should you find a name here that you would like more information on, you can write to the Archives for "service records."
