Anne S. Wise <mwise@prodigy.net> Offers some information on the STUART families:
Emanuel L. "Manuel" STUART was a minor when his father died
and his family migrated from Perry Co.,AL to Noxubee Co. MS. According to
another researcher, Joseph L. HUNTER, husband of Manuel's sister, Susan
STUART, was appointed his guardian. Manuel md. Martha Ann ATKINSON on Christmas
Eve 1846 in Noxubee Co. , they are listed in the 1850 census with his brother
Thomas STUART, but soon after they migrated to southern Arkansas. Other
siblings of Manuel are as follows:
Lanita Sconce Miller <ozarkn@southwind.net> needs to locate more information on a doctor who may have raised her Deothrow/Dethrow/Dothrow:
Elias Samuel DEOTHROW/DETHROW/DOTHROW (born 1826) from Brooksville. Family legend has it that he was an orphan and raised by an old doctor who raced horses. He (Eli) married Eliza Alsup (died 1859 in Calhoun County) from Brooksville, also. They had 4 chidren: Christopher (born 1846); Mary (born 1849); Susan (born 1852) and Thomas (born 1853). Last 3 children, another legend states, were "farmed out" to neighbors and friends when Eliza died. (Have no idea where, later he would come back with his new wife to locate the 3 children, and they all had "disappeared". Eli also had 2 brothers from Brooksville: David DOTHEROW and Joseph C. DEATHEROO.
Denise McKay-Kiser <jkiser@soca.com> started a good "give and take" with the following request:
"Please do lookup for surname Taliaferro/Taliferro and McKee in the 1850 census." This was posted to the mail list, with the following replies:
Troy Harper <troy_harper@bigfoot.com>......You might also want to try Tagliaferro. I seem to remember that name in some research I did on Thomas P. HARPER of Nox. Co. I believe he may have witnessed a will or something for someone of that name.
Harvey <harvey@silcom.com>......There is an out-of-print book called "Memoirs of a Chickasaw Squaw," which was written by Velma Taliaferro. She mentions that she is a descendant of James Logan Colbert, the founder of the Chickasaw-Colbert, and gives a rather sparkling rendition of the history of one line of Taliferros.
