Noxubee County, Mississippi
"The Tavern"
Mr. Mat Edwards' home was inherited by his grandson Thomas
Edwards Haynes. The home was built around 1837 in Summerville (now Gholson),
Noxubee Co., MS. This home operated as a stage coach tavern and stop and
was
later operated as a boarding house by Miss Penry for students at the
Summerville Institute.
This photo was taken in 1960 when Jencie Haynes Watkins, daughter
of Thomas
Edwards Haynes and Pearl Hairston, was the owner. After Miss Jencie's death,
the house and land were sold and the house torn down in 1981.
