Lann
Cemetery
Inventory
by William Terrance Thornton, Sherman Thornton, &
Thomas Richard Plunkett; Transcribed by William Terrance
Thornton
This
inventory was conducted on November 12 - 13, 2002,
by Thomas Richard Plunkett, Sherman Thornton, both
of Amory, MS and William Terrance Thornton of Rinnie,
TN. The data was transcribed, the photographs analyzed
and the following lists were prepared by William Thornton.
Directions
to Lann Cemetery: From Highway 278, Greenwood Springs,
MS, turn north on Splunge Road for approximately 6
miles. Turn left on Brown-Taylor Road for approximately
1 mile to the junction of Brown-Taylor and Lann Cemetery
Roads. Turn right on Lann Cemetery Road. The cemetery
is at the fork in the road.
Lann Cemetery lies between Brown-Taylor Road (left)
and Lann Cemetery Road (right).
Note
to user:
Lann Cemetery is laid out roughly in eleven rows,
A through K. Row A, a short row, is to the extreme
eastern part of the cemetery. Rows B through J are
more or less easy to follow although some rows seem
to stop and/or divide. Row K contains all of the remaining
markers to the extreme northwestern part of the cemetery.
Some of the middle rows were almost impossible to
follow because so many of the graves have both a large
headmarker and a substantial footmarker. Some of the
footmarkers in a specific row are in line with the
headmarkers of the adjacent row. Also, the rows were
often difficult to follow because of the large number
of unmarked grave-sites in the middle of the cemetery.
This inventory was prepared two ways:
1.
Part I is a listing of names on the tombstones by
rows. If the marker is shared, that information is
added in parentheses. All
added information is shown in parentheses except the
following:
a.
the word "Born" is added before the birth
date if that date could be determined from the marker.
b. the word "died" is added before the
death date if that date cold be determined from
the marker.
c. in all cases if the month of birth or death could
be determined, the name of the month was spelled
out rather than using an
abbreviation or a numeral.
2.
Part II is a tombstone locator showing the names in
alphabetical
order, the row and the row
number, and a digital photograph file number for the
tombstone if that information exists.
If
you would like a photograph of a specific tombstone
listed as having a jpg file in Part II, please send
an email request to wtthornton9669@bellsouth.net
listing the complete name from the marker you want.
And,
finally, let me say that this inventory of Lann Cemetery
is an on-going project. There were markers that were
not readable without more research; there are some
well-marked tombstones that were not sorted to Row
and Number; and there are several markers for which
no digital picture exists. Updates will be made to
this inventory as time and conditions permit. Errors
and omissions will be corrected as those mistakes
are discovered.

LANN
CEMETERY
PART
I.
LIST
OF NAMES FROM THE TOMBSTONES AT LANN CEMETERY
BY ROW AND NUMBER
Rows
begin at the extreme northeast corner of the cemetery
as it is approached from Brown-Taylor Road and Lann
Cemetery Road. The rows are numbered from the "front"
of the cemetery -- the north end or the portion of
the cemetery lying closest to Lann Cemetery Road is
the "front" of the cemetery for this numbering
system.
ROW
A. East side; does not begin at the "front"
of the cemetery. One family plot with markers and
bench.
