Lafayette Co., MS. Deed Book J, pgs. #579 - #580. Indenture from W. C. A. RAYBURN to Moses POWELL. Transcribed by Jan Lawson . “This Indenture made and entered into this March 17th 1868 by & between W. C. A. RAYBURN of the first part and Moses POWELL of the second part both parties of the County & State aforesaid. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Ten Dollars to me in hand paid by the said Moses POWELL of the second part I, W. C. A. RAYBURN of the first part do bargain sell & convey unto the said Moses POWELL of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land Known and designated as follows: N. E. ¼ of N. W. ¼ of Section 21 Township 10 Range one West & by these presents I, W. C. A. RYBURN of the first part do bargain sell and convey for and in consideration of the above mentioned [sum of] money unto the said Moses POWELL of the second part his heirs & assigns forever all of the Legal rights title & claim vested in me to the above described tract or parcel of land. In Testimony whereof I set my hand & seal the day and date above written”. Signed: W. C. A. RAYBURN (seal)…..Certification: State of Mississippi, Lafayette County. “Personally appeared before me W. DELAY, Clerk of the Probate Court of said County, W. C. A. RAYBURN whose germane signature is subscribed to the foregoing Deed who acknowledged that he signed sealed and Delivered the same on the Day and year of its date as his act & Deed for the purposes therein stated. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal of said Court at Oxford, Miss. This the 21st day of April 1868”. Signed: W. DELAY, Clerk. Recorded April 21st 1868. Lafayette Co., MS. Deed Book M, pgs. #241 - #242. Indenture from Moses POWELL to Wm. LACHMAN. Transcribed by Jan Lawson. “This Indenture made and entered into this November 25, 1869 by and between Moses POWELL of the first part and William LACHMAN of the second part both parties of the County and State aforesaid. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Ten dollars paid in hand by William LACHMAN of the second part I Moses POWELL of the first part do bargain and sell [and] convey unto the said William LACHMAN of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land Known and designated as follows N. E. ¼ of the N. W. quarter of Section twenty one (21) Township 10 Range 1 West. I Moses POWELL of the first part do bargain sell and convey for and in consideration of the above mentioned sum of money unto the said William LACHMAN of the second part his heirs and assigns from all the legal right title and claim vested in me to the above described parcel of land. In Testimony thereof I set my hand and seal the day and date above mentioned”. Signed: Moses POWELL (seal)…..Certification: State of Mississippi, Lafayette County. “This day personally appeared before me Charles POWELL, an acting [Justice] of the Peace in and for said County, Moses POWELL who acknowledged that he signed sealed and delivered the with[in] deed for the purposes therein mentioned. Indenture from Moses POWELL to John HIPPS. Transcribed by Jan Lawson. “This Indenture made and entered into this the first day of April Eighteen hundred and seventy by and between Moses POWELL of the first part and John HIPPS I. R. of the second part all of the County of Lafayette and State of Mississippi. Now the said Moses POWELL hath this day for and in consideration of twenty five dollars paid in hand the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged [doth] bargain and sell grant, release, convey and confirm unto John HIPPS I. R. his heirs Executors or Administrators or assigns forever a certain part or parcel of land Known and designated as a part of Section 20 Township 10 Range 1 West Known as a part of the N. E. ¼ of the N. E. ¼ of said section containing 5 acres on the West boundary of said tract of land, all in the County of LaFayette and state of Mississippi. Now the said Moses POWELL for the better surety [of] all the title of said land thereby grant, sell, release, convey and confirm to the said John HISSE I. R., his Executors or Administrators forever hereby warrants and defends said land against all claims, where unto I have affixed my hand and seal the day and date above written".” Signed: Moses POWELL (seal)..…Certification: State of Mississippi, LaFayette County. “Personally appeared before me Charles POWELL, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, Moses POWELL deposeth and saith that he signed and delivered the foregoing deed as his own act and deed. Indenture from Moses POWELL to P. M. FORTNER. Transcribed by Jan Lawson. "This Indenture entered into this the second day of December One Thousand Eight hundred and seventy two by and between Moses POWELL of the first part and P. M. FORTNER of the second part all of the County of Lafayette and State of Mississippi. Now the said Moses POWELL hath this day for and in consideration of the sum of One thousand dollars paid in hand in current money the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged [doth] bargain and sell grant release and convey and confirm and by these presents doth bargain sell release convey and confirm unto the said P. M. FORTNER his heirs Executors or Administrators or assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land Known and described as part of Section Seventeen Township 10 Range 1 West of the South East quarter, forty acres more or less, also a part of Section twenty Known as a part of the N. E. ¼ Section 20 Township 10 Range 1 West 35 acres, more or less, also a part of the N. E. ¼ quarter Section 21 Township 10 Range 1 West of the basis Meridian all in the County of Lafayette and State of Mississippi forty acres more or less. Now the said Moses POWELL for the better surety [of] the title and interest of said tract or parcel of land thereby grants sells releases conveys and confirms unto the said P. M. FORTNER his heirs Executors or Administrators forever and hereby warrant[s] and Defend[s] the title of said land or parcels of land against the claim or claims of all whereunto I have affixed my hand and seal this the day and date written, this the second day of December 1872". PERRY, and acting Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Lafayette, Moses POWELL deposeth and says that he signed sealed and delivered the foregoing deed as his own voluntary act and deed this the second December A. D. 1872. Given under my hand and seal". Signed: F. A. PERRY, J. P. (seal). Filed December 1872. Recorded December 23rd 1872. Lafayette Co., MS. Deed Book V, pg. #390. Indenture from J. W. MORELAND to Moses POWELL, J. W. POWELL and J. A. POWELL. Transcribed by Jan Lawson. “This Indenture made and entered into this the 8th day of December A. D. 1876 between J. W. MORELAND and Sarah Ann MORELAND his wife of the first part and Moses POWELL, J. W. POWELL, J. A. POWELL of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand Dollars cash in hand paid by the parties of the Second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have granted Bargain[ed] sold and convey[ed] unto the parties of the Second part all the right title interest and claim in and to the following Designated land viz: The South East quarter of Section Nine (9) in Township Ten (10) of Range one (1) West of Basis Meridian together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging. To Have and to hold unto them the parties of the second part, their heirs and assigns forever. And the parties of the first part do convenant and warrant that they are seized in fee simple of the land above conveyed And furthermore that they will warrant and Defend the title hereby conveyed against the claim or claims of any and all persons claiming any title thereto adversely to the title hereby conveyed. In Testimony whereof the parties of the first part hath hereunto set their hands and seals the Day and Date first in this presents above written”. Signed: J. W. MORELAND (seal) and S. A. MORELAND (seal)…..Certification: State of Mississippi, LaFayette County. Filed April 13th 1877. Recorded May 31st 1877. Lafayette Co., MS. Deed Book V, pg. #391. Indenture from E. F. A. ANDERSON to Moses POWELL, J. A. POWELL and J. W. POWELL. Transcribed by Jan Lawson. “Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth F. A. ANDERSON, wife of James T. ANDERSON, for and in consideration of the sum of one Dollar to me in hand paid by Moses & J. A. & J. W. POWELL have released and quit claimed and by these presents doth Release and quit claim unto them the said Moses and J. W. and J. A. POWELL, all my right title and interest and claim in and to the following Designated land, now in the possession of them, the said Moses, J. W. and J. A. POWELL, to wit: The South East quarter of Section Nine Township 10 Range 1 West of the Basis Meridian also the South West Quarter of Section 10 Township 10 Range 1 West. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal the 8th day of January 1877”. Signed: J. E. F. A. ANDERSON in the presence of T. T. ANDERSON…..Certification: State of Mississippi, LaFayette County. “This day personally appeared before me J. H. WELCH, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, Elizabeth J. E. F. A. ANDERSON wife of James T. ANDERSON and after a private examination separately and apart from her Husband acknowledged that she signed sealed and Delivered the within quit claim Deed on the 8th Day of January 1877, without any fear or threat or compulsion on the part of her husband.
