CHAPTER ONE
CLAN FERRILL ~ in Mississippi
Written by: E. Ferrill McKee
April 4, 2012 will mark two hundred years since Bryant T. Ferrill of McIntosh County, Georgia, was granted a federal passport to "travel through the Creek Nation to the Western Country", which would on December 18 of that year become Jackson County of the Mississippi Territory. In August of that year Bryant, wife Susannah Williamson Ferrill, seven children and eleven slaves traveled across the "Western Country" on a four-foot wide trail to what we now know as George County, Mississippi. Every possession was moved by animal backs, wheelbarrows, and ground sleds. The youngest child in the movement was about six months old, and he seems to have made the movement without special problems. His name was John Wesley Ferrill, and he lived another 91 years, most of that time as a Methodist ordained minister, preaching in churches across the coastal area of Mississippi.
Indian Creek Cemetery, George County, MS
We speculate as to the origin of the name John Wesley Ferrill. The original John Wesley is widely credited as being the founder of Methodism. It appears likely that Bryant T. and Susannah were greatly impressed by John Wesley's sermons, and they imbued in their eldest son, John, a desire to become a preacher in the Methodist Church.
Six other children had been born in Georgia to Bryant T. and Susannah:
Williamson Ferrill Mary Ferrill, born 1800, who married Claiborn Chatham Elizabeth Ferrill, born 1802, who married Robert Dixon George Washington Ferrill, born 1804, who married Mary McDonald Lucy Ferrill, born 1806, who married Chauncey Stevens Amelia Emily Ferrill, born 1808, who married Daniel Pickett Archelous Adolphus Ferrill, born 1810, who married Martha Hough

In 1876, Mary Ferrill Chatham and Claiborn Chatham had one child, Bryant Chatham, born 1822 in Mississippi.
The marriage of Lucy Ferrill and Chauncey Bigelow Stevens produced the following children:
Wiliam Stevens, born 1826; Emily Stevens, born 1828 Benjamin Stevens, born 1830, and served in the Confederate Army, 17th Battalion, Mississippi Cavalry, as a Captain.
[Service record copy is filed in the Genealogy Department of the Pascagoula library branch.]

The remains of Louisa Ranegar Ferrill who died in 1937, repose in Ferrill Cemetery, Escatawpa, Jackson County next to the Confederate Soldier marker for her husband, John Wesley Ferrill, in the cemetery named for him.
A sample of news writing, an obituary during that time follows:
"Cyrenius R. Ferrill died at the residence of his father, Rev. John Wesley Ferrill, near East Pascagoula, Mississippi, of congestion of the brain, October 20, 1868, in the seventeenth year of his age. Just one month, to the very hour, his mother "crossed the flood" before him. Thus, the bereavement was doubly sad and afflicting---how mysterious the dispensations of Providence that calls away the mother from the bosom of the family and follows it so soon with another, widening and deepening their grief! Yet how often does it occur. One affliction sometimes seems sent to make way for another, and often renders a repetition of the stripes necessary to bring our lacerated hearts to how with submission to the chastening hand of our all-wise and loving Father. Take the cup, my brother. Though the draught be bitter, drain it to the dregs, saying, "Thy will be done," knowing that 'The Lord loveth whom he chasteneth."
Not long after Wesley was released from the Confederate Army he was married to Sarah Jane Kirkwood, daughter of Henry and Miranda Whittington Kirkwood. Henry was the son of William and Elizabeth Kirkwood.
Every boy, every man, caught up in the United States Civil War, whether as a unionist or as a rebel, whether he died on the battlefield, or years later, in his bed, has a story to tell, a message to send. Oftentimes this message is a mystery that can partly be told by a gravestone. A gravestone is a message. Some messages are clear, some not so clear, some verbose, some succinct, some true, some somewhat imaginative.
Meanwhile, Wesley Francis Ferrill, born 1842, died 1930 at the Confederate Soldiers Home at Beauvoir, in Biloxi, Harrison County Mississippi; Sarah Jane died in 1929, in Columbia Marion County, Mississippi. The remains of each rest at Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, Marion County, Mississippi. Under a common gravestone.
Children born to that marriage were: Hubert I was born in 1869 and died 1969 Bertie Emaline Williamson, born 1873, died 1917 Morris A. born in 1874. died 1940 Cadmus Alley was born in 1870 and died 1883 Wesley John was born 1883, died 1903 Elinor Ferrill Leake was born 1872, died 1913
Hubert, Morris, Cadmus, Elinor, Bertie, Wesley John, are buried at Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, Marion County Mississippi, along with their parents (Wesley and Sarah). Myra Miranda was born 1878, died 1954, She and husband Irvin McClendon Sr. rest in a cemetery (name not now known), in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Irvin Sr. died about 1951 Remains of Celeste Louise Ferrill, born 1880, and Kate Moore Ferrill McDonald, born 1891, each of whom died in 1962, were interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbia MS, Marion County, Mississippi Cammie Inez Ferrill McKee was born 1888 in Columbia, Marion County Mississippi. CHAPTER TWO
CLAN FERRILL ~ in North Carolina
Richard Ferrill was born ca 1665, in Franklin County North Carolina. Richard married and that marriage produced several children, among whom was John Ferrill born 1695. John married Ann Bryant, born 1697, each of whom is presumed to have been born in Franklin County North Carolina.
That marriage produced the following children:
Bryant ca 1720 John Jr 1723 William 1725 {see children names below} Rebecca 1730 Patty 1732 Temple 1734 Frankie 1734 Clancy, 1738 Elizabeth, 1740 Polly, 1742 Penelope 1744
There is evidence on the Internet that John and his son William, each signed an oath of loyalty to the State of North Carolina, opposed to King George during the period of 1774 and 1804. There is an indication on the Internet that William served in the Revolutionary Army, although that has yet to be fully documented.
John died in Bute County, North Carolina, in January 1786.
William Ferrill married and that marriage produced: Byrd Ferrill, born ca1760 in Bute County, North Carolina Benjamin Ferrill, born 1765 in Bute County, North Carolina Bryant T Ferrill, born May 29, 1769, in Bute County, North Carolina Archelous Ferrill, born 1772, in Bute County, North Carolina
There is a strong probability that William moved his family to Screven County, Georgia during the latter part of the 1700's.
Byrd married Elizabeth, surname not known, and that marriage produced the following children:
William, born ____ Williamson, born ____ John, born ____ Sara, born ____ Elizabeth, born ____ Nancy, born ____ Polly, born Bennett, born 1785 Mickelberry, born 1787 Records indicate that Archelous Ferrill married Sally Parker, who had been born in Greene County, North Carolina.

CLAN FERRILL ~ in Georgia
By E. Ferrill McKee
Mickelberry, son of Byrd, married Nancy Coleman. They had one child, Sara Coleman Ferrill, born 1817, presumably in Georgia.
Byrd died in Butts County, Georgia in 1829. Benjamin and wife, surname Miller, given name not now known, produced the following, some if not all in Georgia:
Benjamin Ferrill 2 Byrd Ferrill 2 Martha Ferrill Mary Ferrill Miriam Ferrill Julia Ferrill
Benjamin, listed in the 1830 census, died 1834 in Screven County, Georgia. There appears to have been a will dated December 2, 1834. Bryant met and married Susannah Williamson in Georgia, born to Mr. and Mrs. George Williamson in Screven County, Georgia, in 1780. The marriage produced the following children in Georgia:
Mary Ferrill, born 1800 Elizabeth Ferrill, born 1802 George Washington Ferrill, born 1804 Lucy Ferrill, born 1806 Archelous Adolphus Ferrill 2 John Wesley Ferrill, born 1812 Bennett, son of Byrd, met and married Julia Coleman. The marriage produced one child, Blount Coleman Ferrill, born 1816, died 1908.

UPDATED JANUARY 31, 2007 CHAPTER FOUR CLAN FERRILL ~ in Texas By E. Ferrill McKee In 1862, a fifteen year old boy, striving to be a man, walked up to a recruiter for the Confederate Army, and declared himself to be in the fight. His father and older brother had already enlisted in the Confederate army a year before. He was given a weapon and a uniform. His name? Thomas Alhanan Ferrill, son of John Wesley Ferrill and brother of Wesley Francis Ferrill. After standing down in 1865, along with all other Confederate soldiers, he returned to his father?s home in Escatawpa, Jackson County, Mississippi. He met Lydia Bond, and married her on November 17, 1867. Lydia?s parents were Russell and Lydia Nelson Bond. Later, the Batson/Bond Family Book records that Lydia and infant son John R. died of fever, along with others in the family. Lydia and infant John were interred in Colonel John Bond Family Cemetery in Wiggins, Stone County, Mississippi. Thomas Alhanan Ferrill had been born to John Wesley and Emaline Hough Ferrill, on April 18, 1847, in Escatawpa, Jackson County, Mississippi. Thomas moved from Mississiippi after the death of his wife and son. Census records for 1870 include the family of John Wesley Ferrill, but do not include the name of Thomas, so that we may assume that by that time Thomas had moved on at some date between 1868 and 1870. In Texas Thomas married Emma Hall, who had been born February 15, 1854 in Texas. The marriage of Thomas and Emma produced the following: 1873?.Jerusha Ferrill, who married John A.
