HIGGINS |
Cheryl Higgins |
Tue Feb 18 10:37:21 1997 - I am looking for information that may confirm/elaborate a
family story about an antescendant named Charles Higgins -
one of seven sons of a "well-off Mississippi family".
According to this tale, six of these sons fought on the side
of the Confederates during the civil war, and the seventh
fought on the side of the Union. This seventh son was supposedly
disowned, and some family decendants today reportedly still
refer to the "six sons of the family Higgins from (Jackson?)
Mississippi" when asking about a Higgins' background.
We always respond that we are decended from the seventh brother
Higgins. Charles Higgins was perhaps a captain in the Union
army, may have been quite a drinker, and is supposed to have
joined up with Kit Carson after the war setting up saloons
in Kansas. He married one of Cary Nation's girls, and we think
not much came of this marriage, at least in the way of children,
as she is buried in Utah, and he is buried in Illinois. Any
info? |
