Rokeby Plantation

"Just below Midnight, MS and situated on the banks of Silver Creek is Rokeby Plantation, which is called by many, "The Love Place".  The property has been owned by the Love Family for many years and is still owned and operated by them.
Mr. Dewitt Clinton Love was born in Pike County, MS.  As was true with so many families that settled along the Creek, he stopped first in Madison County before coming to the Delta, for he married Miss Mary Catherine Alexander there on November 30, 1865.
Mr. Love, who in later years was know as Colonel Love, served with distinction in the War between the States, in Company H, Field and Staff, Ninth Regiment, Mississippi Infantry and was wounded in action in Tennessee.
A son, Hugh Marshall Love, born on the plantation in 1870 was for many years President of the Bank of Yazoo City, another Frank, served Yazoo County as Chancery Clerk and Dewitt Clinton Love Jr. Was Mayor of Yazoo City.  The eldest is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Yazoo City.
Hugh Marshall Love Jr., son of Hugh Marshall Love and Janie Gill andrews, is an attorney and makes his home in Yazoo City, but makes frequent trips to the plantation."
