Pocahontas

Pocahontas was and is a real place in U. S. Hwy 49, now just a way stop that
has a state rest stop and visitors center near it, in Hinds County. It once
had churches, stores and other businesses, a post office (in Mr. King's
store), and a large cemetery connected to the Methodist church building, although
I think there are "non-Methodists" buried there as well from the community.
The cemetery's oldest intact gravestone death date is 1885, when I recorded
the cemetery in 1979. The cemetery could be older than that.Mary Collins Landin, Utica, Hinds County
