Thomas Gale and wife Anne Sue Thornton Gale owned the house that is on N. State St that is the current Art Gallery. Thomas Gale gave the building that was the old YWCA as a home for working girls in Jackson and there was a plaque in it until the current B&B *moved in* that stated this fact. They threw the plaque away. Tom Gale willed the Art Gallery to the city of Jackson or he gave it before his death. I am not sure but I know it was transferred from Tom to the city and I think by will.
Tom Gale was born in Satartia in Yazoo Co, MS, son of Abner Green Gale and Mary Perkins Gale. They moved to Shadowlawn in west Jackson and raised their family there. Tom Gale married Anne Sue Thornton of Shelbyville, IL. Her grandfather was Gen. William Fitzhugh Thornton.
Their daughter was Gertrude Gale. she was my grandmother and lived all her life in Hinds Co. Was born at Shadowlawn and grew up on N. State in the house that is the Art Gallery, next-door to the Virden House.Thomas "Tom" Gale b. 23 Feb 1857 Satartia, MS
