OBITUARY

 CAPTAIN JAMES E. BURKE

An old and generally respected resident of Keokuk died at 7:45 o'clock Sunday evening, Capt. James E. BURKE passed away at his residence, No. 704 Orleans Street. He was seized with a fatal illness two weeks ago, since which time he has continued to fail in strength. General debility and old are assigned as the causes of his death. Captain BURKE was in the seventy-third year of his age and was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1815. In 1836 he came to the United States and located in Williamsport, Va.,  where he remained until 1849, when he became a resident of Keokuk, He conducted a mercantile business and previous to the southern waters. He married Margaret McCUNE, who died in 1871, in Ohio, and his second wife, who survives him, was a Miss LYNCH, of Carthage, ILL. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. TORPEY, of Marietta, Ohio; Mrs. P. G. DOLAN, of Raymond, Mississippi, and Mrs. John FANNING, of Keokuk. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning from St. F!
