Joseph "Pete" Dawson, 84, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Dawson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He attended Pocahontas Baptist Church. He earlier in life was an oil field worker and later retired from Hinds County as a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include: his wife Ruby Dawson of Clinton; five children, Dave Dawson and wife Lynda of Franklin, Tenn., Danny Dawson and wife Margaret of Clinton, Judy Burns of Clinton, Janice Russell and husband Randy of Clinton, and Ricky Dawson and wife Amanda of Byram; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
