FUNCHESS
JESSE B. FUNCHESS, retired Army Major, died December 1, 1981, born June 13, 1906 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1928 with a B.S. degree in Engineering. He then came to Texas as a flying cadet at Brooks Air Force Army Aircorps. Mr. Funchess was an engineer for Gulf Coast Rice Mills for six years. A reserve officer, called to duty in 1940, served in the Philippines and then sent to Puerto Rico where he was discharged. He was with Shell Oil Research Lab for six years, and later became a real estate broker. A life member of Reserve Officer's Retirement Association, life member of Miss. State University Alumni. Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth F. Funchess, Houston; son, Dr. J.B. Funchess, Jr., M.D.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Reginald Ivey, Bellaire; brothers William F. Funchess, Galveston, Percy N. Funchess, Cleveland, Mississippi; four grandchildren, David and Glenda Ivey, Laura and Christopher Funchess. Funeral services are to be private.
