Alline Jones Cockrell, 76, died Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at home. Visitation is 12 noon until 8 p.m. today at Jackson Memorial Funeral Services on Woodrow Wilson in Jackson. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Progressive Morningstar Baptist Church on Robinson Road in Jackson with burial to follow in Autumn Woods Cemetery in Jackson.

Mrs. Cockrell, a native of Shivers, was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, shopping, and sharing time with her family and wide circle of friends. She was affectionately known as "Mama Al" to many, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her reputation as an excellent and prolific cook is legendary.

Mrs. Cockrell was a member of the Progressive Morningstar Baptist Church in Jackson at the time of her death, and she had also held memberships at James Chapel Baptist Church in Shivers, Smith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and Pearlie Grove Missionary Baptist Church, both in Jackson. A member of the Rissah Court No. 80, Daughters of the Isis, Mrs. Cockrell ascended to its highest position, Illustrious Commandress, which she held for three years. At the time of her death, she was the organization's High Priestess. Very active as a community volunteer, Mrs. Cockrell had served as Chairman of the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson and was a volunteer in several successful local and statewide political campaigns.
