The Oak Tree Hotel, built around 1850, was a popular hotel with politicians and lawyers.  Two of the Inn’s most prominent guests were Andrew Jackson and Sergeant Prentiss.  Prentiss delivered his famous speech, “In Defense of aBedbug,” during one stay there.
T.D. McManus opened a Gen. Merchandise Store in a section of the old Oak Tree Hotel.
