EDWARDS HIGH SCHOOL HOLDS COMMENCEMENT

Graduation Exercises To Be Held Monday Evening at Eight

EDWARDS, May 23--(Special)  The commencement exercises of the Edwards High school were begun Friday night, May 20, when the children from the primary and grammar grades presented a band concert and operetta respectively, all of which was under the direction of Miss Margaret Daniel, of the faculty.

The children's band was directed by Master Jacie Boy Kendrick, who showed unusual skill in securing excellent harmony from the diverse instruments.  Selections varying from the classical as"humoresque" to jazz like "Me Too," were given to the delight of the large audience. The operetta, "The Pink Parasol" was presented immediately afterwards and much of dramatic talent was displayed by the young actors.

On Sunday morning, May 22, the sermon to the graduating class was delivered at the Methodist church, by Rev. L.L. Roberts of Canton. His message was one of exalted inspiration and thoughtfulness and was thoroughly appreciated by the fine congregation present.

On Monday morning, class day exercises were given at the high school auditorium.  The order of exercises were as follows:  Song by juniors; Salutory, Jas E. Luster; history, James E. Goodrum; poem, Elizabeth Bolls; prophecy, Jas A Nowell, will, Paul Lehman;
valedictory, Oscar L. Hartwig; song by seniors; presentation promotion certificates.

The remaining feature is the graduation exercises Monday evening at 8 o'clock, when the above named students will receive their diplomas. The address fro that occasion will be delivered by C.F. Travis, of Jackson.


EDWARDS SCHOOL CLOSES SESSION  (ca. 1923-1924)

EDWARDS, May 23--(Special)  The graduating exercises of the Edwards High School will be held Monday evening in the school auditorium.

Members of the Senior Class are Mary Elizabeth Bolls, Oscar Lewis Hartwig, Jim Goodrum, Arthur Howell and James Everett Luster. On Monday morning certificated of promotion were given pupils graduating from grammar school into high school.

Class members are:  Bettie Lane Clark, Dorothy Harris, Marvis Davis, Hele3n Belknap, Hazel Drummond, Bettie Kate Standard, Austin Birdsong, Grover Cook, Phelan Williamson, Jesse McCoy and Bruce Belknap.

EDWARDS  Nov 12--(Special)  the honor roll of the Edwards Consolidated School for the month of Oct.. is as follows:  Edith Hartwig, Laura Newman Bryant, kindergarten;  Lynn Carlsy, Barney Ray Cook, Ruby Estelle Cook,  first grade; Marion Bishop, Hilliard Canada, second grade; Ted Birchetta, Bobbie Clark, Claude Callendar, J.C. Martin, Catherine Montgomery, third grade; Josephine Parks, fourth grade;Sarah Davis, fifth grade; Lemly Cook, Virgie Sue Park, Carmen Davis, Minnie Ruth Kendrick, eighth grade; Lucretia Davis, ninth grade; Elbert Anderson, Guyon Slocumb, eleventh grade: Emma Farr, twelfth grade.

The requirements for the above distinction is 100 per cent attendance
and and average of 90 in each subject.
