Repairs on the County Jail at Raymond. The Board of Supervisors at their last meeting awarded the contract of repairing the county jail to Mr. F.B. Hull of Jackson. He being the low- est bidder. He proposes to put in two new iron cells or cages, and take out the old filthy sinks, and put in a system of sewerage with water closets in each room; these closets will lead into a sewer that is connected to an underground cess pool, situated out- side of the jail. There will be an
abundance of fresh water forced up by pumps into a tank in the attic, which leads into eeach of the cell rooms. These changes will render the jail secure, as well as wholesome- as the constant use of the old vaults has always been a source of discomfort to the jailer as well as the prisoners.Additional Comments:
This jail was built by the Weldon Brothers after the completion of the courthouse in 1859-60. This jail was located behind the courthouse.Source: Hinds County Gazette Photo
