Walter Leake

Walter Leake was born on May 20, 1762 in Albemarle County Virginia
 
Governor of Mississippi, U.S. Senator. A Revolutionary War veteran, Walter Leake served in the Virginia Legislature and was later appointed Judge of the Mississippi Territory. Leake was the first U.S. Senator from Mississippi and the third Governor of the state. At the time of Leake's death the town that is now Clinton was named Mt. Salus. (bio by: Natalie Maynor)
