George Poindexter

George Poindexter was born in 1779 in Louisa County.

Jacksonian Politician from Mississippi. He served as a delagate to Mississippi from 1807-1813. Also served in the House of Representatives from 1817-1819 and as Governor of Mississippi from 1819-1821. In 1830, he was appointed to the US Senate upon the death of Robert H. Adams and served until 1835.

George Poindexter died Sep. 15, 1853 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi
