Cowles Mead

Cowles Mead was born October 18. 1776
 
Territorial Governor of Mississippi. Born in Virginia, Mead moved to Georgia, where he served the state as a U.S. Representative, and then on to Mississippi, where he served as Territorial Governor. In addition to having been known for ordering the arrest of Aaron Burr in 1807 (Burr was acquitted), Mead was known for his lavish landscaping and is credited with having introduced bermuda grass to the U.S. (bio by: NM)
 
Cowles Mead died on May 17, 1844 and is buried at the Cowles Mead Cemetery in Clinton, Hinds County Mississippi
