Corp. James Sampson Ball, Jr. Born 1839, Greene County, Mississippi. Enlisted on August 22, 1861, as a Private into Co. A, 24th Mississippi Infantry, β€œFor the War.” He was promoted to 4th Cpl. On April 1, 1863. Ball was wounded severely at Resaca, Georgia in May 1864. By November 30, 1864, Ball had returned to his regiment in time to carry the colors of the 24th Mississippi Infantry in a night charge against Union works at Franklin, Tennessee. Ball was shot and killed in action at that place, and was buried at the McGavock cemetery in Franklin in the Mississippi section {section 35} grave number 205, marked β€œ205, Corp.
