I am looking for information on my gggrandfather.Dr. Hamilton
Hunt BILBO, who was a dentist. He was born in MS in 1851 and died
in Hattiesburg and is buried somewhere in Hattiesburg. He died in
1944. He was married to Frances Analiza HINES CRAIN (who was born
in 1848 in MS). She died in 1913 and is buried in the Poplarville
Cemetary. Apparently he was the only dentist in Poplarville, MS
during the turn of the century and also surveyed the town of
Poplarville. He married his second wife, Susan Cordelia Moody of
Forrest County, MS on July 1, 1914. If anyone could help me out
I'd appreciate it. Also, I found out that there was a book
written called "Bilbo and Kin" by an author in Hattiesburg. If
anyone has any information on that or where to get it i would

Seeking information on the Moses Tyler family in Copiah County.
Moses Tyler (born abt 1778 in SC) & Elizabeth McCloud Tyler had
three known children born in Copiah County: Joseph Anderson Tyler
(also known as Anderson Tyler), abt 1829, Reuben Tyler, abt 1821,
John Tyler, abt 1818, and Mary E. Tyler, abt 1848. Evidently
Elizabeth McCloud Tyler died in Copiah Cty between 1848 and 1850;
would like any information on her death/burial/etc. Moses Tyler
left Copiah County with his children in early 1850 for Bastrop
County in central Texas. Joseph Tyler married Eliza Mitchell in
Copiah County 27 Feb 1850 just prior to their departure for
Texas. Any information on Eliza Mitchell's family in Copiah
County would also be appreciated She is believed to have been
born in SC but census records give conflicting reports of her
birthplace. Any information on these families would be greatly
appreciated.

married to William Edward King, buried in Mississippi, probably
in Richburg Cemetary near Hattiesburg. She is buried next to
William Edward, but her name, dob, death etc. is missing. I have
been there but am not sure of the name of the cemetary. My
grandfather, her son, was Alvin Curtis King, married to Nell
Dees. They were married April 15, 1906. My mother was Hazel Joan
King. We believe Martha Elizabeth is descended from Isaac Weldon,

I am looking for information that may confirm/elaborate a family
story about an antescendant named Charles Higgins - one of seven
sons of a "well-off Mississippi family";. According to this tale,
six of these sons rought on the side of the Confederates during
the civil war, and the seventh fought on the side of the Union.
This seventh son was supposedly disowned, and some family
decendants today reportedly still refer to the "six sons of the
family Higgins from (Jackson?) Mississipp"; when asking about a
Higgins' background. Charles Higgins was perhaps a captain in the
Union army, may have been quite a drinker, and is supposed to
have joined up with Kit Carson after the war setting up saloons
in Kansas. He married one of Cary Nation's girls, and we think
not much came of this marriage, at least in the way of children,
as she is buried in Utah, and he is buried in Illinois. Any info?

At the outbreak of WWII, Fitzhugh Lee (Russ) and his family and
many of the other Neshoba County Gunters moved to the Gulf Coast
(Mobile AL, Moss Point and Pascagoula, MS) to work in the Defense
Industry, International Paper Company, Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp,
etc. When the war ended, most remained south but retained strong
ties to Neshoba County all their life. I grew up in Moss Point,
Mississippi until I graduated from High School in 1964 and went
away to college. I have lived all over the US and the world since
and have only been back to visit family. It has been 35 years
since I visited Neshoba County but I have always considered it as
my ancestral home.
If you can point me in a general direction, I would be grateful.
I live just outside of Washington, DC and have ready access to
the National Archives. I am going to retire from the United
States Navy (Chapalin Corps) in a few years and I would like to
get started on my family tree soon.

left Putnam Co., GA shortly after 1820. Eli and Greenberry both

Hattiesburg, Miss, July 20...George Washington Haynes, 83, once
promptly identified with timber and mill operations in this
section of the state, died at his home in this city....survived
by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Mary LACEFORD and
Mrs. P.A. MCSWAIN of this city, John HAYNES of Durnam, and T.F.
HAYNES of Purvis. My family lost touch with George Washington
HAYNES, my gr-gr-uncle, when he moved from AL to MS. He was born
in Lauderdale Co, AL Jan 1842. I have information on him and his
siblings and parents to share before he came to MS. Does anyone

Researching the family of Hugh McDONALD (about 1799-about 1870)
and his wife Catherine McCOLLUM (about 1808-about 1870) of
Forrest and Perry County. They came from Richmond County, NC, and
bought Carlile's Mill (now the town of Morriston) in NE Forrest
County (then in Perry County) in 1853. They had about seven
children: #1-Peter (1830-1870, married Mary CHAPPELL), #2-Mary
Jane (1832-?, married Henry Elijah LEE), #3- Austin (1834-1907,
married Mary ?), #4-Claiborne (1836-1913, a Methodist minister,
he settled in Rankin Co.), #5-Hugh (married Betty SEAMORE), #6-
Duncan (1841-1862), #7-Catherine (1843-1926), married W. F.
WEDGEWORTH). All of the children, except Claiborne, lived in the

Seeking information about Mary CHAPPELL (about 1836-?) and her
husband, farmer Peter McDONALD (1830-1870) of Forrest/Perry
County, MS. She is probably the "Mary McDonald" listed on the
Perry County census of 1870, with a 1-year old son named Hugh,
living in the household of 36 year old Joshua CHAPPELL. Joshua is
listed in the 1880 Perry County census, but Mary McDonald was not
in his household.

Seeking information about the family of Henry Elijah LEE (1831-?)
and his second wife, Mary Jane McDonald (1832-?) of Forrest/Perry
County, MS. He and his first wife, Nancy McLemore, were the
parents of four children. He married Mary Jane McDonald in 1870
and they had one son, Hugh Austin (1873-1951, who lived in
Hattiesburg all his life). Mary Jane is listed on the 1920 census
as a Hattiesburg resident; Henry must have already passed away as
he is not listed on that census.

Shady Grove Cemetery in Jasper Co. Ch: William Harmon, Eleanor,

I am doing a search on my great-grandmother... Her name was
Pearline Trotter. She resided in HAttiesburg for as long as I can
remember. Her last address before death was 221 Ruby Avenue. She
had one daughter by birth named Mae Emma Beverly. Both are
deceased now, and I think both of these names are not maiden
names.... Please assist me, by doing this lookup, or forwarding

My name is Sharon Romine Ayers. My grandfather was Charles Macon
Wallace (b 1898) and my grandmother was Lillian Leatie Steele...
one of 12 siblings. I have a large paperback book, collected some
20 odd years ago by Louise Martin Pate Cox. It contains a fair
amount of old photos and begins in 1273 with a Robet Stele of
Lincolnshire on the East Coast of England with reference to
origins in Ireland and the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It's about
185 pages, typed in 12 point. It begins with a narrative and
references of lost members and begins in earnest with the family
of Peter Henry Steele (b 1748 in St James Parrish Santee
(Charleston, SC) who married one Anne Varnor in August 1773. He
had a brother, William. It follows a group who removed to Florala
Alabama and then to Hattiesburg, MS... up to the present. Too
long for me to transcribe, but it could be scanned. I think I may
have the only surviving copy and I hate for it to be lost for
those who are trying to put this all together. Any suggestions?

I am trying to find some info on my Great grandfather William
Austin Baker. I am told he lived in Hattiesburg around 1930 and
probably died there. He was divorced from his wife so they were
still in Meridian but he moved to Hattiesburg...Can someone check
the cemetary books and/or death notices and see if he appears
anywhere? He was probably born around 1875 and died between 1930

My mother in law Edna Lorena Hulett Lineberry died three years
ago. As I prepare to sell my father laws home, I have found in
papers that she had two half sisters. Marguarite and Happy Hulett
they would probably be in their late 70's or 80's. Edna was born
in Meridian and raised in Hattiesburg. Her mother was Gertrude
Blanton Hulett Gilbert Carr, daughter of Lorena Blanton Nance.
Her father's family owned funeral homes in that area. Her father
was Allan Fontaine "Font" Hulett. He died circa 1919, 1920, I
would like to know where he is burried and make contact with
family who might like some of the many, many family photos, I now
have.

Looking for MICHAEL, M J or MIKE SMITH b. 1858 in AL. He goes by
all 3 names. He and his wife IDA VIRGINIA MOREMAN SMITH b. 1860
supposedly lived in Hattiesburg, MS sometime between 1880 and
1885 and had two sons there before moving to Collin County,
Texas. I can find no proof they were there BUT Ida told both her
boys they were born in Hattiesburg. There names are John Franklin
SMITH b.either 1880 or 1881 and JESSE JAMES SMITH B. 1883 or
1884? Found different dates on several Census and documents in
TX. Does this make sense. IDA and her boys rode the train to
Collin County, TX. And her husband MIKE SMITH was to come on
horseback with the stock and his brother OLIVER SMITH?? Needless
to say MIKE and OLIVER never made it back to TX? Would IDA have
had to be well off to ride with her babies on the train back to
TX?Also was there a train depot in Hattiesburg, MS in 1880's?
Would love anyone's opinion on my situation.
