Lily May Caldwell Postcard

Carolee and her family are researching Arthur Brooks CALDWELL and his family. Arthur Brooks Caldwell was Carolee's father's uncle. He and his daughters, Lily May and Winifred, were in Hattiesburg, Mississippi by 1910. The name of his wife is unknown at this time. This photo postcard is of Lily May Caldwell on the front porch of her home in Hattiesburg.

Lily May was born in Houston, Texas in 1898 and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. By 1930, she and her sister Winifred were in Birmingham, Alabama. Lily May Caldwell went to work for the Birmingham News-Herald, ultimately became editor of the entertainment section of the newspaper, was actively involved with the Miss Alabama Pageant, traveled widely to cover plays, concerts, movies for the newspaper. She died in Birmingham in 1980 at age 83 having never married. Her papers are in the University of Alabama Historical Archives.
