Solomon Cemetery

Located in R8W, T4S, Sec. 15 about 500 feet west of the intersection of Wheeler and Robertson Gin roads.  Surveyed in the 1980’s.  Additional information added by Tim Harrison.



John R. Solomon – 1826 – 1893.
Born in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1820 (not 1826), the son of William Solomon (1785, NC – 1845, TN) and Harty Bridges (1791, NC – 1851, TN).  He married Mrs. Mary Cynthia Joyner Jones (1827 – 1923), widow of William Jones, on February 19, 1846 in DeSoto County.  Mary was born in Livingston County, Kentucky, the daughter of Henry Joyner and Cynthia Person.  John and Mary were the parents of the following children: James H. (1847), Elizabeth (1849 – mother of Mary Ann Callicott, see below), John R., Jr. (1851), Benjamin Franklin (1853), Mattie (1855), Lou Emma (1857), Lucy A. (1859 – mother of Mable Clair Munn, see below), Edward (1871), and Sallie (1873).  The family is listed in the 1850 (p. 376) and 1860 (p. 95) DeSoto County Census records, the 1870 Lincoln County, TN Census (p. 225), and the 1880 DeSoto County Census (p. 551).

Charlie Joyner Solomon – 1869 – 1890.  Son of J. H. & E. E. Solomon.
Born in DeSoto County, he was the son of Joseph H. Solomon (1832 – 1902) and Emily E. Joyner (1843 – 1920), daughter of Henry Joyner and Cynthia Person.  Joseph and Emily married in DeSoto County on December 9, 1858.  Charlie is listed in the 1870 (p. 283) and 1880 (p. 550) DeSoto Census records.  His father was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, the son of William Solomon (1785, NC – 1845, TN) and Harty Bridges (1791, NC – 1851, TN).  His siblings were: C. Anna (1859), Mary (1861), Bettie (1863), Joseph (1865), Nannie (1872), Georgia (1874), Eva (1877), and Emma (1879).  His father was a Confederate soldier, serving in Co. I, 29th Mississippi Regiment.  His parents are buried in the Love Station Cemetery.

Mable Clair Munn – 1895 – 1900.  Daughter of E. J. & Lucy A. Munn.
Born in DeSoto County, the daughter of Edward J. Munn (b. 1856) and Lucy A. Solomon (b. 1859), who married in DeSoto County on January 31, 1887.  Edward Munn was the son of Neill Munn and Elizabeth C. Cox, and was born in Hempstead County, Arkansas.  Lucy was the daughter of John R. Solomon (see above) and Mary C. Jones, and was born in DeSoto County.  The family is listed in the 1900 DeSoto Census (p. 252) where Mable is listed with the following siblings: Frank E. (1889 – 1961), Lucille (1891), Ray E. (1893 m- 1949 – WWI Veteran), and Loma K. (1897).  The family is also listed in the 1910 Census (p. 241).

Mary Ann Callicott – 1875 – 1875.  Daughter of W. C. & L. A. Callicott.
Daughter of William C. Callicott (b. 1848, MS) and Lizzy A. Solomon (1849, MS), who married November 9, 1871 in Lincoln County, TN.  William was the son of C. Griffin and Mary J. Callicott.  Lizzy (Elizabeth) was the daughter of John R. Solomon (see above) and Mary C. Jones.  She was one of three children born to William and Lizzy, the other two being J. C. (m) (1874) and Stella M. (1880).  They are listed in the 1880 Tate County, MS Census (p. 227).  Lizzy died in the mid-1880s.  William and his family (he re-married about 1885) is listed in the 1900 Tate County, MS Census.

A. B. H. Johnson – 1849 – 1869.
Believed to be the son of John M. Johnson and his first (unknown) wife.  Listed in the 1860 DeSoto Census (p. 214).  His father was a Confederate soldier, serving in Co. C, 42nd Mississippi Infantry, and was wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.
