Hannaford Cemetery

Located in R6W, T2S, Sec. 34. East of Hwy 305 approximately ½ mile north of Lewisburg. The cemetery is reported to hold the grave of Miss Jane Collins, ca. 1928, but no marker was found (early 1980’s). Additional information added by Tim Harrison.



James W. Hannaford – 17 Dec 1793 – 12 May 1848.
Believed to be the Joseph Hanneford listed in the 1840 DeSoto Census (p. 130).  No record of a Will.

Elizabeth R. Hannaford – 1 Sept 1804 – 12 Jan 1859.  wife of Jas. W. Hannaford.
Born in North Carolina.  Listed in the 1850 Census (p. 425) as Mrs. L. Hansford, age 45.  Living with her were: E. (f), 15, TN; J. (m), 12, TN; and F. Stevenson (f), 80, VA (possibly Elizabeth’s mother).

Margaret Hannaford – 12 May 1836 – 14 Feb 1923.
Apparently never married.  Margaret J. Hannaford, born in North Carolina or Tennessee, may be a daughter of James and Elizabeth, but this is unknown.  Listed in the 1850 DeSoto Census (p. 395) with the following siblings: R. [Ruben] J., 23, TN (he married Sarah E. Brown in 1854); Jos. T., 13, TN; John, 10, MS; George H., 6, MS; and Eliza M., 4, MS.  John and George were Confederate soldiers, serving in Co. D, 44th Mississippi Regiment.  Other known siblings were: Sarah, who married James D. Cherry in 1846 and then W. C. Holloway in 1855, and Mary A. P., who married H. H. Collins in 1850.  Margaret was also listed in the following DeSoto Census records: 1860 (p. 216) living with H. H. Collins and family, 1870 (p. 76) living with Sarah Cherry Holloway and family, 1880 (p. 395) living with Sarah Holloway, 1910 (p. 47) living with H. H. Collins and family, and 1920 (p. 51) living with Mary Collins.
