James B. Henley – 28 Dec 1847 – 6 Feb 1850.
Believed to be the son of J. B. and Margaret Henly, listed in the 1850 DeSoto Census (p. 380).  J. B. Henly was born about 1811 in TN and Margaret about 1815 in Tennessee.  The next family on the census is that of German Baker (see below).

William Cole – Born 1775 – 17 Oct 1849.  Born in Maryland.
Listed is the 1840 DeSoto Census, p. 118.

Sarah Glover Taggert – 8 Mar 1848 – 28 Mar 1848.  Infant daughter of R. L. & E. J.
Cannot locate any Taggert family in DeSoto in 1840 or 1850.

John W. Manning – 16 June 1797 – 11 March 1841.
Listed in the 1840 DeSoto Census, p. 118.  His will was probated in DeSoto and is online at:  http://desoto.msgenweb.org/court/manningjohn.html
The Will lists his wife, Marilla, and son, Thomas H. Manning.  Humphrey Cobb was appointed executor.  Marilla is listed in the 1850 DeSoto Census, p. 375B with the following: William (21, TN), James (20, TN), Columbus (16, TN), Ross (13, MS), Mary (2, MS).  Columbus C. Manning served in Co. C, 42nd Mississippi Regiment, CSA.

Humphrey Cobb – 22 May 1801 – 20 Mar 1854.
Born in South Carolina.  Married Harriet T. Payne in Shelby Co., TN on 26 Nov 1828.  Listed in the 1830 Shelby Co., TN Census, p. 16.  Listed in the 1840 (p. 120) and 1850 (p. 377) DeSoto County census records.  The 1850 shows the following members of his household: Harriet (42, AL), John (17, TN), Robert (15, TN), Ann (13, MS), William (10, MS) and Frances (7, MS).  The cemetery book lists no death date for Harriet.  She is not listed in the 1860 Census and is presumed to have died prior to that time.  There are two known Cobb graves in the Baker’s Chapel graveyard that are unmarked, and she may be buried there.

Josiah Cobb – 9 Nov 1848 – 11 Feb 1850.

Henry P. M. Cobb – 12 May 1842 – 10 Mar 1846.

Mary Ann Denty – 14 Oct 1821 – 5 June 1858.  Consort of Wm. H. Denty.
Born in North Carolina as Mary Ann Dethero.  Married William H. Denty in Lowndes Co., MS on 27 Dec 1837.  In 1840 the family is listed in the Noxubee County census (p. 18).  Listed in the 1850 DeSoto County census (p. 380B) as follows:  William (37, GA), Mary (27, NC), Susan (11, MS), Margaret (8, MS), Thomas J. (6, MS).  One other child, Mary J., died prior to the census (see below).  Another child was born about 1856, A. O. Denty (f).  After Mary Ann’s death, William moved the family to Ashley Co., AR by 1860.  He is listed in that census (p. 83) with the following household: Robert Cooper (21, NC), M. A. (f) (17, MS – believed to be Margaret Denty), A. O. (4, MS).

Mary J. Denty – 8 Sept 1840 – 19 June 1844.  Daughter of Wm. H. & Mary Ann Denty.

Thomas J. Denty – 30 Dec 1844 – 5 Sept 1851.  Son of Wm. H. & Mary A. Denty.

German Baker – 7 June 1792 – 8 June 1879.
Born in Halifax County, North Carolina.  He was a Methodist preacher.  Married Mary Keyser in Murfreesboro, Williamson County, TN on 24 Dec 1828. They are listed in the 1830 Williamson County census (p. 243).  They moved to DeSoto County about 1839 and were listed in the 1840 Census (p. 20).  He and his wife are listed in the 1850 DeSoto Census (p. 380) with the following children: Charles Keyser (18), William Ruker (14), James Denton (12), Felix Walker (10) and Mary Elizabeth (7).  After Mary’s death in 1852 he married Henrietta Crothers.  They are listed in the 1860 DeSoto Census (p. 181).  Henrietta was born in North Carolina about 1819.  During the Civil War all four sons served in the Confederate Army: Charles in Co. C, 2nd Mississippi Partisan Rangers (Ballentine’s); William in (old) Co. K, 9th Mississippi Regiment and also Co. C, 2nd Mississippi Partisan Rangers; James in Co. K, 9th Mississippi Regiment; and Felix in Co. C, 42nd Mississippi Regiment (he was wounded in the back at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 and captured).  German Baker is listed in the 1870 DeSoto Census (p. 101B).  In 1880 his widow, Henrietta, was living with James Baker (p. 368D).

Mary Baker – 24 July 1797 – 6 Sept 1852.  Born in Germantown, Pa.
Wife of German Baker.  She was the daughter of Charles Keyser and Catherine Reese.  In addition to the children listed in the 1850 Census (above), she was the mother of German Baker, Jr. (1833 – 1834).

Locka V. Cobb – 4 Aug 1844 – 9 Feb 1850.

Elizabeth Payne – 22 June 1778 – 7 Jan 1841.
Listed in the 1840 DeSoto Census, p. 118: 0101 – 01020001.
