Weeks Family Cemetery # 2

There are two cemeteries for the Weeks families located in the southwest corner of Copiah County off MS 547. This cemetery, approximately 1/4 acre in size, is the smaller of the two Weeks' cemeteries in size and the number of grave sites identified. The cemetery, located on a pasture, has been neglected, is in a state of disrepair, and difficult to locate. [Samuel Shelton, owner of the land, lives approximately 0.7 mile on the Weeks-Shelton Road. He has been most willing to assist in locating the two Weeks’ cemeteries.]

Only three gravestones have been identified although there is evidence of approximately 10-15 other grave sites.

Directions: (1) From the Jackson, MS area, take I-55 south to the Hazlehurst; exit onto MS 28; continue of MS 28 toward Union Church for approximately 13 miles to the intersection of MS 547 (to Port Gibson). Turn right on MS 547 and continue for 3.0 miles; exit left on Weeks-Shelton Road, a gravel road (the road sign is missing). Continue on the gravel road for 0.8 mile to the intersection of Shelton Lane; turn right on Shelton Lane and continue 0.6 miles. The cemetery is located on the right immediately in front of Jack Shelton’s home where Shelton Lane ends. (2) From the Natchez, MS area, take US 61 North to Fayette and MS 28 to Union Church. Continue on MS 28 from Union Church 9.1 miles to intersection of MS 547. Turn left on MS 547 and continue for 3.0 miles. [See remaining directions above.]
