Cemetery
Lloyd Cemetery, a family cemetery, is located on Shelby
Road, in northwest Copiah County, just south of Carpenter, Mississippi. The
cemetery is no longer in use, and it is somewhat overgrown, especially with
periwinkle. The last burial was in 1902.
DIRECTIONS: (1) From Natchez Area: Take US 61 to Port
Gibson; turn right on MS 18 for 18 miles to intersection of Miles Station Road
(on the left) and Shelby Road (on the right); turn right on Shelby Road and
continue for 1.2 miles; the cemetery is located on private, posted property,
about 200 yards from the main road. (2) From Jackson Area: Take MS 18 to Utica;
continuing through Carpenter, Mississippi, which is seven miles south of Utica,
to Shelby Road, which is two miles south of Carpenter, immediately after
crossing Big Bayou Pierre bridge; follow directions above. (3) From Vicksburg
Area: Taken MS 27 to Utica, Mississippi; continue on MS 18 toward Port Gibson
and follow directions above.
In some instances, a wife's grave stone has the maiden name
and a citation that she is the wife of "X". Where such occurs, two
entries have been made, one with the maiden name and the other with the married
name.
