William & Ann Martin to Webster Gilbert

The State of Mississippi.
Know all men by these presents I William Martin of Copiah County
in the state aforesaid in consideration of four hundred and fifty Dollars to me
in hand paid by Webster Gilbert in the State and county aforesaid have
granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell
and release unto the said Webster Gilbert all that tract or parcel of land
known and designated as the South half of the West half of north east one
fourth of Section number eight Township number eight north of Range number six
East containing forty acres of land be it more or less. Also the south half of the west half of South
East one fourth of Section number five township number eight North of Range
number six East containing thirty eight acres and ninety four hundredth part of
an acre of land the above said lands being and lying in the said County of
Copiah together with all and singular the rights members? hereditaments
and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incvident
or appertaining, to have and to hold all and singular the premeises before
mentioned unto the said Webster Gilbert
his heirs and assigns forever, and do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and
administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises
unto the said Webster Gilbert his heirs and and assigns against myself and my
heirs forever. Witness my hand and seal
this sixth day of December eighteen hundred and thirty seven.

Copiah County } Personally appeared before the
undersigned Justice of the peace, in and for said County the above named William
Martin who acknowledged that he signed sealed and delivered the foregoing
instrument on the day and year therein written as his own act and deed for the
purposed therein expressed. Given under
my hand and seal this 6th day of Decr 1837 Hugh McLauren J.P. {L.S.}

Copiah County } Personally appeared before the
undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for said County Ann Martin the
wife of the within named William Martin and being privately examined by me
appart from her husband acknowledged that she freely and willingly relinquished
all her right title and claim of dower to the within deeded land to the within
named Webster Gilbert his heirs and assigns forever as her voluntary act and
deed without any dread or fear of her husband or any other person or persons. Signed sealed and acknowledged before me
this 6th day of Decr 1837.
