Januay Meeting CCHGS

This is a FREE site provided by the MSGen Web Project.

05/30/14 was the last day I modified this page.

The Copiah County Historical and Genealogical Society met January 7 and heard a presentation by Nell Ann Pickett and Joe Weston with regard to Bear Creek Methodist Church and the surrounding area.  Richard Stockett also spoke of the history of his beautiful home, Mount Arista.  Originally known as Liberty Hall, the house dates back to the 1850's and is located not far from the church.

Touring the historic church was a delight.  Members remarked on the original features still in existence such as the pews, doors, flooring and railing.  It is hoped that not only this church but all churches will strive to maintain the historic character of these beautiful structures for we have seen the needless destruction of too many already.

All are invited to attend the next meeting to be held February 4 at the Georgetown library at 6:30 p.m.  Please join us to learn about the history of one of the oldest towns in the county.  Refreshments will be served.   Feel free to bring a friend and learn with us about the rich history of Copiah County.  For questions, contact Dan Johnson, secretary, at 892-1345 or danjsn@aol.com.
