Parole

Here is a much doctored copy of the parole of private Calvin Hollowell of Co. G Ballentines 2nd Miss. Partisan Rangers.  In case you can't read it there is a text version at the bottom of the image.

Office of the Provost Marshal, District West Tennessee, Memphis, Tenn. May 16th 1865. I Calvin Hollowell a private in Co. G Ballentine's Regiment C.S.A. do hereby give this my solemn Parole of Honor that I will not take up arms again, nor serve as Military police or Constublary force in any Fort, Garrison, or field work, nor as a guard for prisons, depots, or stores, nor to discharge any duty usually performed by soldiers, until regularly exchanged, or otherwise released from the obligations of this parole by the authority of the United States Government. The said Calvin Hollowell to be allowed to return to his home, not to be disturbed by the United States authorities, so long as he shall regard the obligations of this Parole, and the laws in force where he resides. This Parole given under the provisions of the surrender of the forces of General P. Taylor, C.S.A., to Maj. Gen. E. R. S. Camby U.S.A., May 4th 1865. Calvin Hollowell. This Parole of Honor given and subscribed before me, this 16th day of May 1865. By Order of Maj. Gen. C. C. WASHBURN. J. E. McDermott. Capt. 108th Ill. Infantry and Asst. Provost Marshal.
