Searching for any connections to the James Barnett ALLEN family who was in Rena Laura, Coahoma Co., MS sometime between 1900-1910. Traveling with James B Allen was his mother in law, Rhoda A DENNIS, his mother America E ADCOCK Allen, his sister Ina ALLEN and husband George W BROWN. Would love to hear from anyone who might know something about these people during their time in MS. They had come from Jackson Co., TN to pick cotton. Perhaps they ended up in Coahoma Co., MS because they had family already there. Please contact me if you have anything to share on this group. Thanks in advance. Karen M Raichle

I am curious about Sherard plantation at Sherard, MS , and wonder if it is still owned by the family, and who runs it or owns. They are very distantly related to me going back to early 1700's and are a very interesting family, in that John Holmes Sherard, Sr. moved to Coahoma Co from Sumter Co. Alabama in late 1800s (c.1880) and hacked that large plantation out of the swamps. Any info would be deeply appreciated.

I am trying to find information about Elisha Battle CRUDUP (b.c.1803) who was the son of JOHN CRUDUP (d. 1809, Wilson Co., TN) and REBECCA TEMPLE. ELISHA married Louisa (Louisanna) Jane ALFORD, one of the daughters of WILEY ALFORD and SOPHIA VALENTINE DRAKE in Wilson Co., on or about April 16, 1827. They were divorced May 3, 1834 in that county. He was in serious financial difficulties also, for which his brother, ROBERT CRUDUP (my direct ancestor) was security. ROBERT later moved to Perry County, TN, representing that county in the TN State Legislature. Elisha appears in the 1850 census of COAHOMA COUNTY, MS. He is supposed to have migrated from MS to TX. A number of present day Crudups claim descent from ELISHA. The divorce decree refers to no children and the will of Wiley Alford (in which he made generous bequests to children and grandchildren, including Louisa, who was then remarried to Benjamin B.B. Walker) mentions no Crudup grandchildren, while mentioning other motherless ones. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Bob

I am looking for information on the "STIMAGE" family. More specifically, Calvin T. STIMAGE. Information indicates they may have lived on the King Anderson Plantation (Friar's Point) in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Family lore has it that a flood in that area, occurring around 1928-29 caused a separation of some African-American slave families. Many Stimages are said to have remained in this area. Since Clarksdale is in Coahoma County, I decided to try a search for information here. The King Anderson Plantation is supposed to still be in existence (at least about 3 years ago it was).

Re Tom DELLVAGE or Tom DELVIGE The Family Tree Maker shows a Tom DELVIGE married 9 Sep 1872 to Nellie Hardy. The Latter Day Saints Family History Center shows same marriage, but spells name as DELLVAGE. My husband's grandfather born May 4, 1850 William Henry DELVIGE, is as far back as we can go. He came to Texas as a young kid maybe 10 yrs. old. He couldn't read, write or spell. When asked his name, he told them, and they guessed at how it was spelled at the Clerk's office in Bastrop, Tx. Can you please advise me how I can go about finding this Tom DELVIGE/DELLVAGE. Since he married in 1872, and William Henry was born 1850, they could easily be brothers or cousins. Will appreciate your reply. Thanks, Ruth Trevathan Delvige 2306 Hanks St. Lufkin, Tx. 75904 Ph. 409-632-4008 EMAIL - firstname.lastname@example.org

I am trying to find out if my maternal grandmother, Annie TAYLOR, daughter of George TAYLOR, died in COAHOMA county around 1931 or 32. My mother Willie Mae has no information about her natural mother or any of the TAYLORs. She was raised by her father Willie Thomas and his wife Maybelle. They are both now deceased. Your help is appreciated. If you require more information from me, just let me know. I should have said that the people I am trying to locate are Black. I have been told that both of my mother's parents, Annie TAYLOR and Willie THOMAS worked at a place called KING and ANDERSON. I now reside in Columbus, OH, but my mother was brought to Kansas City, Kansas by her parents when she was a toddler. By that time, Willie was married to Maebelle and we do not know what happened to Annie TAYLOR.

I'm originally from Clarksdale, Mississippi - born there in 1936, graduated from Clarksdale HS, and graduated from Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi in 1959. I lived in Mississippi until 1964, when I moved to Texas. Now, my own roots are in Clarksdale and Coahoma County, but I don't know if you can help me on my ancestors. First of all, I am looking for information on my grandmother, Susan THOMAS GILBERT, THOMAS being her maiden name, of course. Now, she lived with my parents for quite a few years until her death at the age of 96 which was about in 1942 or 1943. I was only six or eight years old. The thing is, I know she wasn't born in Clarksdale, but maybe her death certificate would tell something about her. Both my parents are deceased. I have one brother in Clarksdale still - Charles H. JOHNSON, en electrical contractor there. Susan Thomas GILBERT was my mother's mother. I am also looking for information on my father's family - the JOHNSONs from around Neshoba County. So you can see, I didn't know whether to write to you or not. If you can help me, fine, I'll really appreciate it, but if not, I'd still like to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your help.
