Peter B. Starke Amnesty Letter
To His Excellency Andrew Johnson,
President of the United States of America
Your petitioner Peter B. Starke a
citizen and resident of the County of Bolivar, in the State of Mississippi, would
respectfully state that he was a Brigadier General in the Army of the
Confederate States. He further states
that he has taken the oath of amnesty proscribed in your proclamation of May
29, 1865.
Your petitioner would respectfully
ask that Your Excellency grant him a special pardon. That he wishes henceforth to be and remain a
law abiding citizen of the United States government, that he desires its
protection, and is ready and willing to do and perform any and all of the
duties required of him as a citizen thereof.
He therefore asks a favorable
consideration of this his application and that he be pardoned pursuant to your
proclamation above referred to. That he
is now under parole.
